CHAPTER 1 In the darkest corner of the darkest room. In the darkest house in the darkest neighborhood, there is a little girl. Her name is Annabell. She has lots of dolls she likes to play with, dolls from all over the world. She has a few dollhouses as well. Of all the dolls in her house, Matilda is her favorite. Annabell would wake up every morning before the sun rose to play Matilda, and then every night when she was supposed to be asleep. She loves that doll like a little sister. Matilda looks like a creepy doll to anyone but Annabell. With big brown eyes, and chestnut brown hair that curled up like a wig that George Washington would wear. She wore a white dress with tea stains on it, and she had a big smile and rosy red cheeks. Matilda is about two feet tall, almost half the size of Annabell who is four and a half feet tall. Annabell has one certain spot that she loves to play with Matilda in: the abandoned house in the woods. Every night after dinner, before the sun sets, Annabell would grab Matilda and skip into the woods even though her parents have told her multiple times to never go into the woods. But what her parents don’t know won't kill them. Annabell always hears stories about the old abandoned house. She's heard rumors that ghosts are lurking in the house, that a witch lived in that house. Not just the house, the woods too. Her peers at school would make fun of her for playing with a doll near the house. Annabell showed no notice of this, even though deep down she was hurt. The truth is, everyone at Annabell’s school is scared of her for that very reason. But even though all those people laughed at her and called her names like “ghost girl”, the abandoned house in the woods always felt like a second home to Annabell. On the front porch of the house, there are two old rocking chairs. Even though the rocking chairs were full of splinters and the paint was peeling off, Annabell found it quite comfortable. She would run up the steps and place Matilda in one rocking chair and sit down in the other. Every once in a while, Annabell would close her eyes and drift off to sleep. Every time Annabell dozed off she would wake up in her doll-infested bed. Even though Annabell was curious about how she got to her bed in the first place, she was even more excited to play with Matilda.
