CHAPTER 2 The next day had taken its toll on Annabell. She had cried herself to sleep last night, and woke up crying. Even though she didn’t like anyone at school and nobody at school liked her, it was very hard to say goodbye. She had learned a lot at the school. A lot of people made fun of her, and she learned just to ignore them. When Annabell got home, the carriage that was going to take her to the train station was waiting for her, along with her parents. Her mother held Annabell’s suitcase and her father held Annabell’s train ticket. "Can I say good-bye to Matilda?” Annabell asked with big sad eyes. "I suppose. But be quick,” Mrs. Morris said. Annabell dropped her school bag and ran into her house, up the stairs, and into her bedroom. She lounged onto her bed and grabbed Matilda and gave her the biggest hug she ever gave anyone or anything. “I’ll miss you Matilda,” Annabell whispered as she started to let go of Matilda. She hugged Matilda one last time before leaving the room to head downstairs. “Now remember, be nice and have common sense,” Mrs. Morris said when Annabell came back out. “Okay Mama, I will.” Mrs. Morris gave her daughter a hug and a big, wet kiss on the check. “That’s my girl,” she said. Annabell stepped away from her mother to look at her father with sadness in her eyes. He knew she didn’t want to go to that awful school, and she knew he didn’t want her to go. Annabell ran to her father and gave him a big hug. “Don’t make me go to that place,” Annabell begged. “I’ve made my final decision,” Mr. Morris declared. Annabell sniffled and gave both her parents one more hug before hopping into the carriage. “Bye mama! Bye Papa!” she cried all the way to the main road.
